Our firm was the lead consulting team member for the completion of a City-wide study for the City of Hamilton, “Step Forward: Pedestrian Mobility Plan”.
The study established a 20 year (2031) framework to improve the pedestrian environment and increase the opportunity for walking as a mode of transportation (active travel) and recreation that is efficient, comfortable, safe, inclusive, accessible and will improve the health of communities and economic development in Hamilton. The approximately 20 month long study was completed in the summer of 2012. Extensive public consultation was an integral part of the study including an interactive community walk map, electronic surveys, P.I.C.s, attending Farmer’s Markets, social media and others.
This study is the recipient of three Awards:
- 2013 OPPI Excellence in Planning Awards, Research/New Designs
- 2013 OPPI and Heart & Stroke Foundation’s Healthy Communities Award
- 2013 American Planning Association (A.P.A.) Western New York Section, Planning Excellence Award, Innovation for Sustaining Places.
